A little closer
to Packwood.
Explore Packwood in Warwickshire, near Lapworth and the Solihull border: a rural place of historic buildings, gardens, field paths and nearby canals. This independent area guide connects you with the organisations that know it best; it is not the official Packwood House or National Trust website.

A small place with a long history
Packwood is best understood as a historic rural area rather than a busy high street. The county heritage website brings together photographs and records of the place, including Packwood House and the separate Packwood Hall, close to St Giles’ church. These are distinct buildings, so use the full name when looking up a destination.
The historic parish extended across what is now the Warwickshire and Solihull boundary. This guide focuses on the Packwood around Lapworth, with nearby places clearly identified. For family-history research, older parish names and present-day administrative boundaries may differ; the historical gazetteer is a useful companion to a modern map.
Packwood House and its gardens
Packwood House is the National Trust’s much-restored Tudor house, known for its topiary and garden setting. A visit can bring together the house, grounds and an opportunity to pause at the café. The official property page is the place to check admission, access arrangements and which parts are open on your chosen day.
Give yourself room to enjoy the setting as well as the building. The house and garden have their own visitor arrangements, while public footpaths cross the wider estate. Do not assume that a walking route gives access to every part of the property. The Trust also publishes practical information for visitors with access needs.
An Arden countryside walk
The National Trust publishes a circular walk between Packwood House and Baddesley Clinton, taking in the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal and the surrounding countryside. It describes a five-mile route of moderate difficulty, with steps, stiles and uneven ground. This is a countryside outing rather than a fully surfaced accessible path.
Use the route page for the complete directions and current guidance. Field paths can be wet, livestock may be present and parts of the walk follow lanes. If you also want to enter either historic house, allow extra time and check the separate visiting arrangements. A shorter exploration of the estate may suit your day better.
St Giles and local heritage
St Giles’ church stands on Glasshouse Lane at Packwood. Historic England records it as a Grade II* listed building, and its own website carries church news and service information. It is a separate destination from Packwood House, with its own community and arrangements for visiting.
For an architectural visit, check access with the church rather than assuming it will be open. For services or activities, follow the current church notices. The area’s historic buildings make more sense together when you look beyond a single attraction and explore the local records alongside what you see.
Food, travel and a longer stay
The café and shop at Packwood House offer a practical stop during a property visit; check the National Trust’s current access and opening information. For a wider choice of places to spend time, the nearby villages and towns can form part of your itinerary. The accommodation map below is centred on Packwood rather than a similarly named overseas destination.
Plan the last part of your journey as carefully as the train ride. The Trust’s directions discuss local rail options, and National Rail can help you check the journey itself. Use the exact entrance address for your destination; a station bearing a nearby village name is not necessarily beside the house or church.
Community connections and everyday services
Lapworth Parish Council publishes local notices, meeting information and a guide to community groups. Its community directory is a useful starting point for residents who want to join an organisation, while the parish magazine brings together local news. Follow these living sources for activities rather than relying on a dated calendar here.
Warwick District Council and Warwickshire County Council provide wider public services. For healthcare contacts, use the NHS service finder with your actual address. If your address falls across the Solihull boundary, check the responsible authority before reporting an issue.
